KYOYUKI TERADA

Kyoyuki Terada Hanshi was born on 20th March 1922 in Nagasaki, Kyushu in Japan.

of Yoshinkan Aikido in the world.

It all started in April 1934 when young Terada graduated from primary school in Minami Kushiyama and started his education in Kaisei Junior High School where he had his first lessons of martial arts. It were Kendo and Judo. In June 1937, fifteen years old Terada Shihan won the Judo competition and receives the prize for the best contestant of the year in Judo. He was noticed, and becomes uchideshi in Shubukan Dojo and in July 1937, as a student of a high school in Nagasaki prefecture took part in Judo competitions organized by the school. April 1940. Eighteen years old Terada Shihan starts his education in the Takushaku university, where he joins the Karate Club; in 1941 he enters Shidojuku University dormitory, where he meets Soke Gozo Shioda. Between the year 1940 and 1943 Terada Shihan learns the art of Sumo from Sensei Akutsugawa Sensei, Judo lessons from Sensei Sone, and Kashimaryu Jujitsu lessons from Sensei Osugi. December 1943. Twenty one year’s old Terada Shihan joins the army because of the Second World War, and in March 1944, becomes a member of the air force unit where he is responsible for preservation of the planes to August 1945. After war, he comes back to his home in Nagasaki, 1948. Terada Shihan, being 26 years old, moves to Tokyo and starts to work in the Miyakashi firm. Two years later in 1950 he moves on to join the police forces in Yokohama. In the same year, Terada Shihan starts training in the Aikikai Honbu Dojo and learns from O’Sensei Ueshiba Morihei and Doshu Ueshiba Kisshomaru. In 1952 Terada Shihan, 29 years old, with Soke Gozo Shioda ,leads an Aikido training for the NKK firm and 85 police stations in Tokyo. Afterwards, in 1955 he leads the Aikido training for the Police Department in Yokohama and Camp Drake in Saitama. July 1955. 31 years old Terada Shihan becomes the creator of Yoshinkan Aikido together with Soke Gozo Shioda. In 1957 Terada Shihan (33 years old) meets the senator of the United States, Robert Kennedy together with premier Nakasone in Yoshinkan Honbu Dojo. 1961 Terada Shihan in age 37, leaves Tokyo and goes to the Yokasuke army base, where he leads Aikido training and meets Sensei Amos Parker, former apprentice of Sensei Noguchi Yukio. Terada Shihan teaches him Aikido.
1967. Terada Shihan, age 43, starts one of his many journeys beyond the borders of Japan to take part in the Aikido seminary in Honolulu on Hawaii. 1977, Terada Shihan once again starts to train Sensei Amos Parker, when he left from the United States naval forces. Terada Shihan taught Amos Parker the next 20 years, before he came back from Guanam to Yoshinkai Honbu Dojo. Terada Shihan, 66 years old, receives the 9th Dan (Ku Dan) from the hands of Soke Gozo Shioda. He also receives the title of Saikoo Shihan in Yoshinkan Aikido. At present he is the chairman of the National Yoshinkan Renmei and Yoshinkan Seiseikai, and is also the only Saikoo Shihan in Yoshinkan Aikido.
